Winter Carnivals and Festivals

 

Marmora Snofest 2016  - Friday- Sunday February 5th - 7th

Head north on February 5th to Marmora "Home of Canada's longest-running sled dog races." Marmora SnoFest offers a full weekend of events starting on Friday night with curling back in Cordova.  The opening ceremonies will be held at the Marmora Senior School Gym at 6:00 p.m.  Sled dog races begin Saturday morning as well as the men's church league hockey tournament.

The Local Food & Artisan Show gives you opportunity to come inside and warm up.  Meet your local farmers and purchase handmade products, baking and original art pieces.  St. Andrew's United Church is hosting a luncheon and then all the excitement begins on Forsyth Street.  Watch Levi, the international award winning chainsaw carver and the kids will enjoy The Little Nippers Race.

Sunday is a full day of sled dog races ending with the closing ceremonies at The Iron Grill (Bunkers Hideaway)

Sophiasburgh Winter Festival - Friday & Saturday February 12th – 13th

The festival kicks off at the historic Sophiasburgh Town Hall with a Xmas tree bonfire (BYOT) & family skate.  Warm up with hot chocolate and hot dogs.  Saturday morning Friendship United is hosting a family breakfast with Disney's Olaf.  In the Town Hall during the "Battle of the blazes” hockey tournament the Women's Institute is having a chili cook off lunch.

Listen to live Celtic music in the afternoon with Seventh Town and enjoy horse drawn sleigh rides.  Thanks to Sophiasburgh’s finest firefighters the day ends off with a Pickerel Fish Fry!

Tweed Winter Carnival - Friday - Sunday, February 12th-14th

The Winter Carnival ambassador "Mr. Tweedy" has planned a fun filled weekend in Tweed and will appear during the Carnival for photos.  The Carnival Torchlight Parade assembles on Colborne St. Friday at 6pm followed by a Kid's Dance, Bonfire & Skating and Fireworks at Tweed Memorial Park by the lake around 8:30 p.m. Dance the night away at the Sweetheart Dance featuring popular Freddy Vette and his band, the Flames. This event is likely to sell out so get your tickets early.

Skate all day Saturday and Sunday on Stoco Lake and from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. there will be a BBQ and loads of games for children and adults including Mr. Tweedy Snowball Toss, Tug of War, Adults Tug of War, hockey games, longest drive, egg toss, Logger games, parachute, and sack races.  Saturday only Local Dog Sledder Chilli Pawz offers rides for children and adults. $3 per person - family pricing available. 

At the Tweedsmuir Tavern from 1-3pm hit the Chili Cook-off and vote for your favourite, samples are $2 and proceeds will go to the Tweed Food Bank. Leave some room for a hearty beef stew dinner served from 1:00 -5:00 p.m. at the Tweed Lions Hungerford Hall . $8 per plate includes a bun, dessert and beverage.

After a full day of food and games enjoy a evening dance at the Tweedsmuir Tavern with the Charlie Bird Band.

Wake up early Sunday for an 8:00 a.m. pancake breakfast at the Land O' Lakes Curling Club. At 10:00 a.m. members are holding a "Closest to the Button Contest" in the Curling Club.  All ages welcome to participate.

City of Quinte West Frost Fest - Saturday, February 13th

City of Quinte West has packed a full day of family fun with free entertainment all day! Come to the Batawa Community Centre for Lunch and skating with the Trenton Golden Hawks on the outdoor ice.  Spend some family time roasting marshmallows, making arts & crafts, face painting, balloon twisting and check out the outdoor petting zoo.

Napanee Winter Chill Festival -  Monday, February 15th

Grab your mitts and hats and bring the whole family out for a full day of fun!  Taste the Chili Challenge and after the snow shoeing, horse drawn wagon rides and skating be sure to try the Apple Donuts from Spring Meadow Orchards.  There is popcorn, candy floss and starting at 3:00 p.m. Don't miss the family friendly performance by Mary Lambert!

Savour the Chill 2016 - Saturday, February 20th

The downtown Belleville businesses are getting ready to serve up soup samples for the 13th annual Savour the Chill. Enjoy your $2 samples on picnic tables throughout the downtown and catch a ride on a horse drawn carriage. At 10:30 a.m. the Belleville Public Library invites the children to come for a story time and craft.  The soup will be served from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and don't forget to vote for your favourite soup and your favourite host location.

Dummy Downhill Race -  Saturday, February 6th @ 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Batawa Ski Hill is presents the Dummy Downhill Race.  Build your own Dummy and get it ready to race.  Points will be awarded for creativity, durability, airtime and distance.

Wait ‘N Ski Race -  Sunday, February 7th  @ 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Race down the hill using one hand to hold a tray full of dishes and support The Children’s Foundation in the Wait 'N Ski Race! Registration is $50 for a team of three and includes a lift pass for each member, each team must include at least one snowboarder!

Winterfest at Sandbanks - Monday, February 15th 12:20 – 3:30 p.m.

The Friends of Sandbanks friendsofsandbanks.org have sponsored a day at the Maple Rest Heritage House on PE County Road 12. Outdoor fun includes Cross Country Skiing, tobogganing, and snowshoeing and warm up by the bonfire.  Come indoors for heart-warming chili, hot chocolate, tea and coffee.  Enjoy children’s activities, live music with Mark Despault and friends.  They would love to have you join in on the “Kitchen Party Jam so bring your instrument.
