The Drake Devonshire ARTIST IN RESIDENCE SHANNON GERARD
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: SHANNON GERARD
Textile and installation artist + artist in residence,Shannon Gerard, is bringing a new installation to the Drake Devonshire; a crocheted timeline of the Drake's history from foundry to private home through senior's residence to lakeside inn titled, Because I Could Not Stop.
"Because I Could Not Stop is a material embodiment of my ideas about time. 365 stitches in the centre of the map make a stronger visual impact than at the outer edges, and sure enough, it is in the late 20s when the circumference of the shape exceeds 365 stitches. Though all the maps in this series share the same basic math, they are portraits as individual as my many collaborators. This project will evolve as the works travel and I meet new people who tell new stories and ask new questions about themselves."
Shannon would love to welcome any company while she crochet’s the winter away! Gather around the fireplace with your own needle-based crafts every Sunday afternoon in the Pavilion for some creative conversation and contemporary crafting. If you have local history to contribute to the timeline, bring your stories too. Never crocheted? No worries, Shannon will show you some basic stitches.
